Zoopla honours charity pledge

Principal sponsor hands out £53k to good causes

ALBION’S principal sponsor Zoopla.co.uk has donated £53,000 to local charities – honouring its pledge to give away ‘a grand’ for every goal scored by the Baggies during the 2012/13 Barclays Premier League campaign.

The leading property website presented cheques that were written prior to Sunday’s thriller with Manchester United to beneficiaries during the half-time interval.

However, after Steve Clarke’s side fought their way to a dramatic 5-5 draw with the champions, Zoopla tore up those cheques and issued new ones, with goals from James Morrison, Youssouf Mulumbu and Romelu Lukaku’s second-half hat-trick adding a further £5,000 to the fund.

Ideal for All, Krunch, Compton Hospice, CLIC Sargent (West Midlands region) and Macmillan Cancer Support (West Midlands region) will now each receive £5,300, while the club’s official charity, The Albion Foundation, will bag a whopping £26,500.

Alex Chesterman, Founder & CEO of Zoopla.co.uk said: "We're delighted to be handing over such a significant sum to each of these charities.

“They all do great work and are in need of our support.

“The Baggies have had a tremendous season and we're glad that our charity ‘Golden Goals’ initiative has quite literally paid off for the local community."
