Hundreds pay respects to 'Mr Albion'

Players and managers past and present attend Dave Matthews' funeral

THE Albion family today came together to pay their respects to ‘Mr Albion’ - Dave Matthews - who passed away last month, aged 67.

Hundreds of people packed out St John the Baptist Church, Halesowen, to celebrate the life of the long-serving kitman.

A host of players and managers from Dave’s 51 years at the club, including Bryan Robson, Tony Mowbray and Brian Talbot, were there to pay tribute to him.

And Baggies greats Cyrille Regis, Brendon Batson, John Wile, Ally Robertson, Bob Taylor and Paul Raven acted as pallbearers.

After a private family burial, Dave’s wife Carol and daughters Alison and Clare were rejoined by mourners at The Hawthorns, where the flags are today flying at half mast in honour of Dave.
