Reid playing for his Albion future

Right-back eager to impress in final 11 games after securing two wins on return

STEVEN Reid admits he is one of a number of players playing for their Albion futures between now and the end of the season.

The Baggies right-back has revealed the option to trigger the second year of the two-year deal he signed last April is likely to be at the club’s discretion in the summer.

Reid’s recent return to Steve Clarke’s side after injury has helped bring back-to-back wins over Liverpool and Sunderland after a winless six-game league run.

And he hopes to keep impressing in the final 11 games of the campaign - starting at Chelsea today (ko 3pm).

“We’ve got players with points to prove and players whose futures are uncertain in the summer," said Reid, who celebrates his 32nd birthday in eight days’ time.

“So everyone is playing for their own futures as well as for the club.

“My deal is games related and I’m hoping it will just roll on into next season but I’ve still got plenty to play for.

“It is the club’s option in the summer so we will wait and see.

“I want to carry on playing in the Premier League.

“A lot of the season has been hampered with a couple of injuries but I just want to keep playing from now until the end of the season.

“I have played a couple of games now and I want to continue.”

He added: “It is no time to switch off.

“In fact it’s probably the time to prove yourself, and for the players whose future is in doubt it’s a chance to put themselves forward.

“There are a few in that position, so it’s about personal pride for the lads to want to kick on and have a good season and the ones who are maybe coming to the end of their contracts - it’s an important time.”
