Baggies beaten at home by Black Cats

ALBION were defeated 2-0 by Sunderland in the Barclays U18 Premier League at the club’s training ground on Tuesday.

First-half goals from James Stinson and Nathan Thomas sealed the win for the Black Cats as they met with the Baggies for the second time in four days after a 1-1 draw in the north east on Saturday.

And development coach James Shan was disappointed with his side’s performance following an impressive display at the weekend.

“We gifted them both goals in really strange and unfortunate circumstances,” said Shan.

“We were totally different to how we played on Saturday and we lacked the intensity and discipline which served us so well only three days earlier.

“The second half was a totally different game and we had much more of the ball but we don’t score enough goals and that has been a problem for us this season.

“It’s frustrating to go from what I saw on Saturday, when we played well for 90 minutes of the game against the same opposition, to Tuesday where we didn’t start playing until the second half.

“I’ve said it time and again this season, we need to be better at either end of the pitch.

“We need to be more dogged in defence and more clinical up front.

“We haven’t conceded loads of goals, but when you’re not scoring lots of goals of your own, it hurts when you let one in.

“This team will produce quality players but it’s important that they don’t become used to playing in a losing team.”
