Baggies youngsters earn first win of 2013

ALBION registered a 1-0 victory over Stoke in their opening Barclays Under-18 Premier League Group One fixture at the club’s training ground on Saturday.

Danny Barrow’s 54th-minute strike was enough to see off the Potters as the Baggies extended their unbeaten home record to five games.

And development coach James Shan was pleased his side began their year with a triumph following a four-week break.

“It was a good win with a very a young side,” said Shan.

“It was a tight game and a draw would have been a fair result so I’m pleased we were able to fight for all three points.

“We had to be patient because Stoke are a very difficult side to break down but we kept the ball and played quite well.

“Stoke had some good opportunities too and though we probably had more of the ball they might have edged it in terms of chances.

“We head to Liverpool on Saturday and it’s another opportunity for the young players to gain experience against a good side.”
