SCA Ladies cruise into semi-finals

Baggies fire nine goals past Halesowen in County Cup

SPORTING Club Albion Ladies roared into the Birmingham County Cup semi-finals thanks to a 9-1 thrashing of Halesowen Town last night.

Although both teams play their home games at The Grove, the Baggies were drawn as the hosts against the Birmingham County Division Two leaders.

And almost 150 spectators enjoyed a goal feast as Natasha Baptiste fired a hat-trick, Robyn James bagged a double, and Sinead Scott, Abbie Pope, Emily Key and Harley Simpson all notched for Dave Lawrence’s side.

He said: “We had really good support and I’m desperate for us to go even further in the competition now.

“We’ve said in the past, when playing lower league opposition, we can’t get complacent and let our levels drop.

“We weathered an early storm from Halesowen and then we played some really good football.

“We exploited the space well and maybe should have scored more.

“We gifted them their goal and to restrict them to just a couple of chances is a good achievement against any opposition.

“It was a really professional performance.”

The draw for the semi-finals has yet to be made.
