And 19-year-old striker feels he's going from strength to strength with Baggies
ROMELU Lukaku deflected praise onto his Albion team-mates following today’s 2-1 triumph over Sunderland – despite netting a brace at The Hawthorns.
The on-loan Chelsea striker fired his sixth goal in as many games as the Baggies rose to seventh in the Barclays Premier League after back-to-back victories.
And the former Anderlecht powerhouse, who has now scored 12 goals for Albion this season, believes his impressive form is down to the quality performances of his Black Country colleagues.
“It was a big win for the team after last week against Liverpool so we have to continue like that,” said Lukaku.
“Every striker wants to score goals and hopefully, if I can continue to score goals, the team will keep winning.
“I’d like to thank my team-mates for giving me the opportunity to score goals and it is boosting my confidence.
“After the second goal we were playing at a great standard.
“There was great passing, great movement and we were defensively very strong.
“Shane’s movement alongside me was good and that helped me a lot.
“We need to continue playing like that.
“The teams we play are sometimes scared because Shane can do great things with the ball.
“It’s good to have a player with such big quality alongside me and he has a lot of experience in the league.
“He helps me a lot but so do the other players like Morrison, Mulumbu and the other players in midfield, who help me a lot, and I’m pleased we have such quality players in the team.
“I always want to score as many goals as possible but the main thing is to end the season as high as possible with the team.
“We stand very well in the league and hopefully we will continue to do that.”
The 19-year-old hitman also insists his regular appearances at The Hawthorns have boosted his belief as he continues to learn his trade.
“I’m learning every day and also in the games,” Lukaku added.
“I’m playing very well at the moment but now I need to keep on going like that and continue to work hard.
“I feel more confident than I did at the start of the season and that’s the main thing.
“When the confidence is there you can work on a lot of other things so I think that’s the main difference.”
