Baggies narrowly through to FA Cup fourth round

SPORTING Club Albion Ladies advanced to the FA Cup fourth round courtesy of a narrow 3-2 victory at Leafield on Sunday.

Robyn James (pictured) netted either side of skipper Amy Rippington’s 58th-minute strike as the Baggies sealed a home tie with Sunderland on Sunday, February 24 (ko 2pm).

And Albion boss Dave Lawrence believes his side made difficult work of overcoming the Midland Women’s Combination League outfit.

“When we did the simple things well we were in control of the game but at times we lacked concentration and we kept letting them back into the game,” said Lawrence.

“That said, they’re not a bad team, and they are completely different to the team we were playing against a couple of years ago.

“I was pleased with the number of chances we created but lapses in concentration at the back made the game much tighter than it needed to be.

“Without making excuses we should have put them to the sword.

“It got to the stage where we needed to score with two minutes remaining and our players were seeing the clock out by playing the ball into the corners.

“We should never really be in that position and we’d have taken our chances better it wouldn’t have come to that.”
