Clarke: Odemwingie's chance will come

And boss says forward will be in contention for Sunderland clash

STEVE Clarke insists it is a question of when and not if Peter Odemwingie will make a first-team return to action this season.

The Baggies boss says the Nigeria international will come into contention for his final 18-man squad against Sunderland on Saturday (ko 3pm).

And Odemwingie will be keen to face the Black Cats having scored the winner against them on his Albion debut – the first of his four goals in five top-flight games against the Mackems.

“I’ve got 20 players available and he’ll be involved with the 20 players,” said Clarke.

“It’s the same situation as we had at Anfield and he’ll be under consideration just like the rest of the players.

“Every player will be under consideration for selection in the final 18 and that will depend on how training goes, how I see the game and how I feel the best way to approach the game is.

“Peter is available for selection.

“We’ve had a couple of little chats but nothing in-depth and he knows the situation.

“He knows he needs to work hard and he has to be ready for his opportunity when it comes and, for sure, it will come because we only carry a small squad.

“He has to be ready to go.”
