Downing delight with Anelka display

And caretaker boss pleased with Berahino link-up

KEITH Downing hailed ‘spot on’ Nicolas Anelka as his deadly double earned a precious point in today’s 3-3 draw at West Ham to keep the Baggies in 15th place.

The 34-year-old hitman made his first appearance in just over two months as he was given the nod to partner Saido Berahino in attack.

And he took full advantage of the opportunity to fire his first Baggies goals as the duo terrorised the Hammers’ defence.

“I thought he had a good game,” said Downing.

“He combined really well with Berahino.

“He has that quality to drop in there and link the play.

“He controls the game from that area and also has a threat.

“He got on the shoulder for the first goal and got in behind.

“It was then a typical poacher’s goal off the corner for his second.

“I’m pleased with him.

“It’s been a while since he’s figured and played but his dedication and attitude to it has always been spot on.”
