Baggies fall to third-successive loss

SPORTING Club Albion Ladies suffered a 3-1 defeat by Blackburn in the League Cup at The Grove, Halesowen, on Sunday.

Rovers took the lead after 22 minutes but Jemma Connor-Iommi equalised for the Baggies just after the break.

The visitors regained their lead on 66 and sealed the victory with five minutes remaining.

Following the loss ladies manager Dave Lawrence called on his players to up their game.

“We’re playing okay, there’s a lot of 6/10 performances,” said Lawrence.

“The way we’re playing will get you so far, but when you come up against the better teams like Blackburn we need to do better.

“We’re not getting the results or points we should be getting and the players are frustrated because they’re not used to losing.”

Lawrence also spoke of his excitement about new signing Summer Holmes joining the side.

“I’m really excited about Summer Holmes, she’s a top player and it will give us competition for places which should help.”

Next weekend Sporting Club Albion Ladies take on Lye Town in the Birmingham County Cup and for more information you can follow the ladies on Twitter @SCALadies or like them on Facebook www.Facebook.com/AlbionLadies.
