Clarke on Popov decision

But boss says left-back has been good addition to squad this term

STEVE Clarke says Goran Popov has been a valuable addition to the squad - but insists the defender will have to wait until the end of the season for a decision on whether his future lies at The Hawthorns.

The Dynamo Kiev left-back joined the Baggies on a season-long loan in the summer, with a view to a permanent deal.

He has made ten Barclays Premier League appearances this term, providing stiff competition for Liam Ridgewell at left-back.

“I have given thought to him – it’s an ongoing situation,” said Clarke.

“I said earlier in the week the last six games won’t decide the future of any player at the club.

“I’m quite comfortable in my own mind where I’m going with all the players that need a decision.

“But we won’t make those decisions until the end of the season – and nobody will know until then.

“I haven’t sat down with Goran or had a long conversation with him.

“I know he’s happy here and happy with the work he gets.

“And the only thing he’s unhappy with is that he hasn’t had more minutes on the pitch.

“But he was in the team and he lost his place in the team through an unfortunate incident."

He added: “I’ve been happy with him.

“He’s done well and has been a good addition to the squad.

“He seems really comfortable with the boys, he’s a good character and I think he’s comfortable in England.”
