Popov debut put on hold

Left-back also a doubt for Reading clash

STEVE Clarke has revealed next Saturday’s home clash with Reading (ko 3pm) could also come too soon for Goran Popov to make his Albion debut.

The on-loan left-back travelled to Craven Cottage for today’s clash with Fulham – but was unable to play any part due to a groin strain he picked up in training on Friday.

The Macedonia international, who signed from Dynamo Kiev on transfer deadline day, has now returned to his homeland before reporting back for Baggies duty on Tuesday, when his injury will be assessed again.

“I went to Scotland on Tuesday night and watched Goran play for Macedonia,” said Clarke.

“I thought he played well.

“Unfortunately on Friday he picked up a little groin strain in training.

“He has a little niggling injury.

“After he signed for us he had to go away with his international team.

“We’ve now given him a couple of days to go back to Kiev and empty his flat and sort his personal life.

“We’ll see how he is when he comes back into the group on Tuesday – and we’ll see how he is from there.

“The groin strain could keep him out for a week to ten days.

“He might be doubtful for the next game but until we’ve checked him after he’s been to Kiev, it’s difficult to say whether he’s definitely missing it or not.”
