Olympic goal glee for Wood

Academy graduate nets for New Zealand while Dawson is unused Team GB sub

CHRIS Wood achieved a magical personal milestone yesterday – he scored at the Olympics.

The Albion Academy graduate opened the scoring for New Zealand in their Group C clash with Egypt at Old Trafford, slotting home from close range in the 17th minute.

Wood played the full 90 minutes but the All Whites had to settle for a 1-1 draw after Mohamed Salah levelled on 40.

New Zealand's final group game is against Brazil on Wednesday (ko 2.30pm).

Albion’s other Olympian, Craig Dawson, was an unused sub for the second game running as Team GB beat UAE 3-1 at Wembley.

Team GB’s final Group A game is against Uruguay on Wednesday (ko 7.45pm).
