Clarke explains Cox absence

Head coach leaves striker out of Oakwell stalemate after bid from unnamed club

STEVE Clarke revealed he left Simon Cox out of today’s goalless draw at Barnsley after Albion received a bid from an unnamed club for the striker’s services.

The head coach yesterday named the Republic of Ireland international in his 19-man squad for the Oakwell friendly – but replaced him with Kemar Roofe at the 11th hour.

“A bid has been put in for Simon and you know what it’s like when something like that happens,” said Clarke.

“The player can become a little bit distracted so I made the decision not to bring him today.

“Things might resolve themselves over the weekend.

“If they don’t, Simon will be back working with us.

“In fact, I know he’s due in tomorrow for training with the group.”
