Key trio set for training return

Downing provides update on Yacob, Ridgewell and Foster

ALBION are hoping Claudio Yacob, Ben Foster and Liam Ridgewell will be back in training by the end of the week after injury – but the key trio remain doubts to face West Ham on Sunday (ko 4pm).

Yacob missed Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Arsenal due to a minor hamstring problem, while Liam Ridgewell (ankle) limped off after just six minutes of the Emirates Stadium encounter.

Foster has been forced to sit out the last six games after undergoing minor operations on each groin.

Joint-assistant head coach Keith Downing has provided an update on all three players.

“None of them are training at the moment but we’re hopeful we'll have them all back in later this week, maybe Thursday or Friday,” he said.

“Obviously we’re going to see how they do during that day or two.

“Ridgewell’s injury is a strange one because it looked innocuous and he sort of played the ball down the line and then felt something pop.

“He obviously couldn’t carry on, and knowing Liam as I know him, he will generally play on in a fair bit of discomfort.

“Having said that, I don’t think it’s as serious as we first thought it was when he came off.

“I think he had a scan on Monday and they’ll look at the medical records.

“We’re hopeful that all three will be involved in some level of training by the end of the week.”
