Wolves PL2 2 Albion PL2 0

28 August 2017

AN Albion Premier League 2 side featuring a number of youngsters was beaten 2-0 by Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Monday evening.

James Shan's starting XI saw Evan Pierce, Rayhaan Tulloch and Nathan Ferguson promoted from the under-18 side, with trialists Kyle Jameson and Harry Edge also lining up for the derby game.

It was Wolves' Dan Armstrong who had the first chance of the game in the 11th minute, curling a shot past Alex Palmer but also past the post from inside the area.

Armstrong called Palmer into action again just two minutes later but the Baggies stopper was equal to the midfielder's fierce drive.

Jameson then made two important blocks before the end of the first period which also saw a controversial decision by referee Paul Marsden. Evan Pierce appeared to be brought down as he was put through one-on-one with Wolves 'keeper Harry Burgoyne but Marsden waved play on.

The 'Palmer v Armstrong' epic continued into the second period, with the former leaping to his right to tip a 25-yard free kick over the bar on the hour mark.

But the young 'keeper was finally beaten in the 64th minute. And what a moment of brilliance it was from Pedro Goncalves, curling the ball into the top corner from a full 30 yards.

Albion battled in the closing stages - with Nick Clayton-Phillips flashing over after fine work from Kyle Edwards - but it was 2-0 to the hosts with just under five minutes left on the clock; Sherwin Seedorf converting after a low cross into the penalty area.

ALBION: Palmer, Soleman (c), Ferguson, Jameson, McCourt, Melbourne, Tulloch (Azaz 75), Bradley, Edge, Edwards, Pierce (Clayton-Phillips 64).

Subs: House, Chambers, Healy.
