Albion edged by United in U18 thriller

23 September 2018

ALBION's under-18 side played out an entertaining clash with Manchester United on Saturday.

A solid first-half performance from our youngsters wasn't enough at Palm Training Ground as the Red Devils came from 3-2 down to take all three points in the U18 Premier League North fixture.

The away team started brightly, with Mason Greenwood releasing an unstoppable volley past Baggies' keeper Ted Cann with ten minutes on the clock.

Albion leveled in the 21st minute after excellent work by Morgan Rogers allowed Jamie Soule to tap home an equaliser.

United took the lead through Aliou Traore's close-range strike before two goals in the space of four minutes turned the game on its head before the interval, Zak Brown and Rayhaan Tulloch on target for the hosts.

The second half saw the Baggies start positively but were victim to a blistering United counter attack, Brandon Williams equalising for the visitors.

Albion defended well for periods of the second half before Greenwood bagged another terrific goal.

And, despite a strong period towards the end of the game, the Baggies were left empty handed.

ALBION: Cann, Hickman, Martinez, Williams, Dyce, Brown (King 82), Azaz, Ashton (Asomugha 78), Rogers, Tulloch, Soule.

Subs: Taylor, Pryzbek, Delaney.
