Kevin Phillips

Simply the BestNO, it's not an interview with legendary singer Tina Turner!

It's our weekly feature in which we get up close and personal with the Albion players to find out who or what tops their charts.

Every Tuesday, you'll be able to read one of the Hawthorns troops' answers to ten probing questions as we delve into their colourful careers and find out what tickles their fancy in their leisure time.

Today, we chat to former England international and ex-Watford, Sunderland, Southampton and Villa striker Kevin Phillips.

Q1: Simply the best match you've ever played in?

KP: The Championship play-off final with Sunderland against Charlton in 1998. I scored one of the goals and we drew 4-4 after extra-time before losing 7-6 on penalties. Even though we lost it was very entertaining. I think a lot of people have gone on record as saying it was the best game Wembley has ever seen. It was nice to be a part of that.

Q2: Simply the best meal you've eaten?

KP: I love Indian food.

Q3: Simply the best player you've played against?

KP: I'll go for Thierry Henry because he plays in my position. For me, he is the best centre-forward in the world.

Q4: Simply the best holiday destination?

KP: The Caribbean. I love the warmth, sandy beaches and relaxed lifestyle out there.

Q5: Simply the best player you've played with?

KP: Niall Quinn because of the partnership we struck up and number of goals we scored.

Q6: Simply the best practical joker?

KP: I've seen a few over the years and most of them go for the Deep Heat in the underpants and cutting your socks. No-one stands out.

Q7: Simply the best book you've read?

KP: Mark James' 'Into the Bear Pit', which was the inside story on the Brookline Ryder Cup. It might sound a bit boring but I'm right into my golf.

Q8: Simply the best captain you've played with?

KP: Kevin Ball at Sunderland. He's an out-and-out winner and one of the hardest players I have ever trained with. He was an absolute, great leader.

Q9: Simply the best match you've ever watched?

KP: The Liverpool-Newcastle 4-3 games at Anfield in successive seasons. They were both tremendous. I really enjoyed them.

Q10: Simply the best car you've ever owned?

KP: My old Ferrari. I'd always dreamt of having one as a kid. But I haven't got one now because I've got four kids to ferry around!
