Robert Koren

Posted on: Tue 15 May 2007

NO, it's not an interview with legendary singer Tina Turner!

It's our weekly feature in which we get up close and personal with the Albion players to find out who or what tops their charts.

Every Tuesday, you'll be able to read one of the Hawthorns troops' answers to ten probing questions as we delve into their colourful careers and find out what tickles their fancy in their leisure time.

Today, we chat to Baggies midfielder and Slovenia international Robert Koren.

Q1: Simply the best match you've ever played in?

RK: I think that I played really well against Newcastle last summer with my old club Lillestrom in the Intertoto Cup at St James' Park. I scored to give us a 1-0 lead but in the end we drew 1-1. It was a good game for us.

Q2: Simply the best meal you've eaten?

RK: I really like Italian food, and anything like that. I would say my favourite is seafood pasta. That's lovely!

Q3: Simply the best player you've played against?

RK: I played with Slovenia against Italy for one of our World Cup qualifiers, so I would choose Francesco Totti. He is a really good player and a big star in Italy. He is difficult to play against as he is so strong on the ball. I also like to watch him play on TV so it was something special to play against him.

Q4: Simply the best holiday destination?

RK: I don't have a special one, but when's it's possible, I like to go to the beach. I like going to the ones in Italy because it is close to my country and we can drive there. Liguria has a really nice beach.

Q5: Simply the best player you've played with?

RK: I played with Zlatko Zahovic in the national team and he was a big star in our country. He played for Valencia, Porto and Olympiakos. He was a great player and person to be around.

Q6: Simply the best practical joker?

RK: Zoltan Gera - or Mr Bean! He is the funniest and a really nice guy. He is always finding something funny to do.

Q7: Simply the best book you've read?

RK: The last book I read was Lance Armstrong's 'It's Not About the Bike'. He wrote about how he prepared himself after his sickness. For him to have had those health problems, fight back and write this book was very admirable. That's probably why it's the best book I've read in the last couple of years.

Q8: Simply the best captain you've played with?

RK: All the captains I've worked with have been great and deserved to be captains. But our captain at the moment, Curtis Davies, is probably the best. He is really up for it on the pitch and being a defender he has this special way of moving his body. He is a very positive man and always gives a hand to everybody. He is a really good captain.

Q9: Simply the best match you've ever watched?

RK: I enjoyed watching last year's World Cup final, Italy versus France, in Germany. It was good to watch because it is such a big competition and everyone likes watching matches like that. It was also special because it was the last game for Zinedine Zidane.

Q10: Simply the best car you've ever owned?

RK: I'm not really into cars but I am currently driving a Land Rover Discovery - and that is fun!
