MARTIS put pen to paper on a two-year Hawthorns deal, plus a further year's option in the club's favour, in July 2007 after sealing a £50,000 move from SPL outfit Hibernian.
The 6ft 1in centre-half linked up again with former Hibs boss Tony Mowbray, who took the Dutchman to Easter Road from Darlington in August 2006.
He joined Doncaster Rovers on a month's loan on October 31, 2008, but any thoughts of extending his stay were ended by a niggling hamstring injury.
Injuries to his fellow centre-halves saw him handed his Barclays Premier League debut in a goalless draw at West Ham in March and he produced an impressive display to keep his place in the side for the next two games.
Further appearances followed and his form saw the club take up the year's option on his contract.
Unfortunately, the season finished on a low note as Martis went under the surgeon's knife for a double hernia operation in preparation for the 2009/10 campaign.
The Dutch Antilles international Martis was restricted to two senior appearances during the first season of his Albion career.
He joined Scunthorpe on a month's loan in January 2008 to gain Championship experience before returning to The Hawthorns.
Martis started his career with hometown club Excelsior before being snapped up by FC Eindhoven.
He joined the Quakers in July 2005 and made an immediate impact at the heart of defence to scoop the club's Player-of-the-Year award.
Martis became renowned for being strong in the air and a pinpoint long-range passer of the ball during his time at Hibs.
