Mowbray: "People come to watch entertaining football and that's what we'll be about." |
TONY Mowbray insisted he will continue to encourage his side to play his brand of attacking football despite admitting they threw away two points in the 3-3 draw with QPR.
The Baggies dominated the Hawthorns encounter from start to finish but poor defending allowed the visitors to twice comeback to take a share of the spoils.
Nathan Ellington's eighth-minute opener and Diomansy Kamara's strike five minutes before the break put Albion 2-0 up, only for Damion Stewart's first-half stoppage-time effort to give Rangers a lifeline.
Kevin Gallen levelled the scores three minutes after the interval but Kamara's eighth goal of the season in the 54th minute looked to have earned Albion their sixth home victory this term.
However, Hoops super-sub Marc Nygaard had other ideas and headed an equaliser eight minutes from time as the Baggies slipped to fifth in the Championship table.
"It's very disappointing for us all - it feels like a defeat," said Mowbray.
"It was a game we dominated from start to finish and we threw away two points through poor defending.
"We were poor defensively tonight.
"If you score three goals at home you expect to win the game.
"I was pleased with lots of aspects of the performance.
"I think at times we played some pretty scintillating stuff and on another night would have won comfortably.
"People come to watch entertaining football and that's what we'll be about.
"We will create chances and score goals and you've got to trust your defenders.
"What I've seen of our defenders since I've been here has been very good and solid.
"I think we've got good enough players to trade with teams in this league and score more goals than them."
Although Albion created plenty of chances to add to their three goals, it was the Baggies' defending which displeased Mowbray most.
And he admitted there is work to be done before Saturday's trip to Derby (ko 3pm) after conceding three times on home soil for the first time in 12 months.
"We created plenty of chances, which was very pleasing," Mowbray added.
"Since I've been here, we've been pretty solid at the back but tonight you couldn't say that.
"We conceded the goals at very, very poor times - one in first-half stoppage time when we were slack on a back pass and then didn't clear from the corner.
"Then we conceded straight after the restart. They were both pretty bad goals from balls put into our box.
"Whether it's because we're not working hard to stop people putting them in, or not defending the ball better, that's football, and we have to get on with it.
"I like to look on the positives.
"We're very aware of the negatives and what we need to work on and we will address that."
