CUP WOE...Nigel Quashie signals to the bench that Carter's evening is over |
DARREN Carter's chances of lining up against ex-club Blues on Saturday (ko noon) have been thrown into doubt after he limped off with a hamstring injury in the Carling Cup defeat by Arsenal.
The Baggies midfielder, who sat out Sunday's 3-0 win over Wolves with a one-game ban, was forced out of the action in the 39th minute against the Gunners.
Hawthorns boss Tony Mowbray revealed Albion's medical staff will reassess the problem on Thursday.
But he admitted it would be a blow if the in-form former St Andrew's star missed the derby clash.
"We'll have to wait and see," said Mowbray.
"Darren's slightly damaged a hamstring but hopefully he's not too serious.
"He had an ice pack on it after the game and we'll assess it on Thursday.
"There is a fair chance he'll be struggling for the weekend.
"It may have been a cramp rather than a tear or a pull so we'll see how it settles down.
"But it's more than likely he's tweaked a few fibres in his hamstring, which is disappointing because since I've been here Darren has shown a lot of energy, drive and no lack of quality.
"It would be disappointing if he does miss the weekend."
