Quashie apologises to fans

Quashie: "I've apologised to the manager, team-mates and staff and I owe the supporters an apology as well."
NIGEL Quashie has apologised to
Albion fans for getting himself sent-off in Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Boro, admitting: "I've let everyone down."

The £1.2million deadline-day signing, who was also given his marching orders for previous club Southampton at Hull in November, will today (Saturday) watch the Baggies' clash with Chelsea (ko 12.45pm) from the sidelines as he begins an automatic four-match ban.

And the 27-year-old midfielder will find out on Tuesday if he is to be further punished after admitting an FA charge of using 'abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official' following his straight red for kicking out at George Boateng in the 54th minute.

"I want to apologise for what happened on the football pitch and for my sending-off," said Quashie.

"I'm disappointed in myself for the way that game turned out.

"My frustration just boiled over at the way the game was going.

"We were playing well and things weren't going our way and then I did something on a football pitch that isn't like me.

"I just saw red at that moment in time and really I should have controlled myself because we were in a good position to get back into the game.

"I've let my manager, my team-mates and the supporters down.

"I hold my hands up. I've apologised to the manager, team-mates and staff and I owe the supporters an apology as well."

Quashie, who was away on international duty with Scotland in midweek, is now determined to make amends when he does return to Albion action.

And he has every faith in his new Baggies team-mates to do the business on the pitch in his absence.

"I came here to help Albion stay in the Premiership and I'm sure the players who are involved in the next few games have got what it takes to win," he added.

"I believe in my team-mates and if they can perform that will take away some of the disappointment I feel.

"When I return I'll be going all out to correct what happened."
