SOMEN Tchoyi admits it is a dream come true to play in the same league as his idol Tony Adams - but insists he will be taking a different approach to Barclays Premier League life to the Arsenal legend.
The 27-year-old Cameroon international made his Baggies debut as a 75th-minute substitute in Sunday's undeserved 1-0 defeat at Liverpool.
And, while Adams was a fiery character on the pitch, Tchoyi intends to let his feet do the talking in whatever midfield role Roberto Di Matteo chooses to use him in.
"I dreamed to play in England and I'm very happy to be here," said the summer signing.
"My idol was Tony Adams.
"I really like the way he played the game and commanded people.
"I'm more calm and relaxed.
"I think I'm a technical player and bring something going forward.
"I also have speed and believe I can change a game.
"I'm here for the team and will play wherever the coach puts me - except in goal!
"I like to play in central midfield where I can be more in the game.
"But when I moved to Red Bull the coach put me on the right side of midfield - and I like that too.
"Just tell me what to do and I will do it properly."
Tchoyi arrived at The Hawthorns having fallen behind on his training due to the amount of travelling he needed to do to secure his move from Red Bull Salzburg.
But his Anfield appearance is evidence he is catching up fast on the fitness front.
"I enjoyed it a lot, the fans and the atmosphere," he added.
"It was not very easy for us but I enjoyed it.
"I felt confident after the work I did in the week to get in shape.
"I was not surprised to be on the bench because I came here to play and I'm just waiting for my chance to show what I can do for the team.
"I'm just excited to see what I can do.
"I'm really confident I can do well."
The Austrian Player of the Year is settling in well to life in the Black Country and he is hoping to flourish at the club his Sheffield-based brother, Alex, and fellow countryman and Burnley star, Andre Bikey, recommended to him.
"I believe I can grow up with this team, learn and help build something," said Tchoyi.
"I have several players in the dressing room who speak French and that is helping me settle in.
"Before I signed I talked with Andre Bikey, who is really close to me.
"My brother Alex also lives in Sheffield and he told me about West Brom and how good the fans are here."
