ROBERTO Di Matteo admitted he was 'massively disappointed' after Albion's cruel 1-0 defeat at Liverpool.
The Baggies more than deserved a point from the Anfield encounter and regularly had the Reds on their heels.
But a moment of class from Fernando Torres in the 65th minute earned the hosts the spoils as the World Cup winner finished in style from the edge of the box.
"We are massively disappointed because we put in a good performance this afternoon against a good team," said Di Matteo.
"We made it very difficult for them and were very organised.
"We were beaten by a piece of quality from one of their players.
"But I'm pleased with the team's performance.
"I thought we faced them and didn't just defend.
"We tried to be positive and play forward.
"We had a couple of half-chances and, with a bit more belief and conviction in front of goal, we might have got one in."
The Albion chief was pleased with the way his men handled Liverpool's superstars - and insisted there was little Albion could have done about Torres' fine winner.
"I thought we coped well with Torres - and all their other threats - all afternoon," he added.
"The difference is these kind of players only need half a chance.
"Torres' shot went between the legs of Jonas Olsson and right in the corner of the net.
"There is nothing you can do about that."
