On This Day - March 20

Posted on: Sat 20 Mar 2010

SATURDAY, MARCH 20, 1976

Goals from Joe Mayo and John Wile (pictured) prove enough to beat Bolton Wanderers 2-0 at The Hawthorns in a game that was to prove pivotal to the season.

With Albion hunting down those sides in the promotion places, it looked as if Bolton would beat them to a place in the top flight but this victory gave the Throstles fresh momentum and set them off on a run-in that included six wins, two draws and just one defeat as they beat Bolton to third place by a single point.

Get this and more in the Baggies book 'THE ALBION On This Day', by Dave Bowler and Laurie Rampling, available in club stores and online (click here), priced £9.99.
