On This Day - March 14

Posted on: Mon 15 Mar 2010

SATURDAY, MARCH 14, 1931

A long range cross from skipper Tommy Glidden (pictured) from just inside the opposition half was caught by a gust of wind and flummoxed the Everton goalkeeper who let it over his head to give Albion a win by the only goal in the FA Cup semi-final at Old Trafford.

A massive crowd of 69,241 made it difficult for the Albion party to get into the ground before the game but at full-time, they were celebrating the prospect of a first ever appearance at Wembley, just eight years after the "White Horse" cup final had made the place an instant legend and a Mecca for all footballers.
