Cox injury not as bad as first feared

Posted on: Tue 09 Mar 2010

SIMON Cox has not yet been ruled out of tomorrow's clash with Sheffield Wednesday (ko 7.45pm) - but Roman Bednar will miss the Hawthorns encounter.

Cox was stretchered off with a badly bruised back at Loftus Road on Saturday following a stoppage-time collision with QPR goalkeeper Carl Ikeme.

But the injury is not as bad as first feared and he could be involved against the Owls after joining in training today.

Bednar will sit out his third successive game due to the groin problem he picked up in the Baggies' FA Cup fifth-round replay against Reading almost a fortnight ago.

"Coxy's recovered quite well, and he's not as bad as we thought," said Roberto Di Matteo.

"He came out training today and is still a bit stiff and sore.

"We will give him another 24 hours.

"Roman is not available for tomorrow.

"It's not a long-term injury but it's only been a fortnight."
