Tamas back in Romania fold

Posted on: Thu 04 Mar 2010

GABRIELTamas has been called up to the Romania squad for the first time under new boss Razvan Lucescu as they prepare to host Israeal in Wednesday's friendly.

The 26-year-old centre-half already has 44 caps and three goals to his name for his country but was not involved in the new coach's first three games.

He last played in Romania's 2-1 World Cup qualifying defeat by Austria in April, which resulted in coach Victor Piturca losing his job.

Chris Brunt has been forced to pull out of the Northern Ireland squad for Wednesday's friendly in Albania due to a calf strain.

Graham Dorrans' Scotland entertain Czech Republic, Jonas Olsson's Sweden visit Wales, Robert Koren's Slovenia host Qatar, Abdoulaye Meite's Ivory Coast take on Korea Republic in London and Chris Wood's New Zealand face Mexico in Pasadena.
