ROMAN Bednar has been dealt a double blow after discovering his groin injury will rule him out of an international return.
Scans have revealed he will be out for at least a fortnight after limping off in the 39th minute of Wednesday's 3-2 extra-time FA Cup replay defeat by Reading.
And that has denied him the chance to join up with the Czech Republic for the first time since his summer troubles after being called up to the squad for their friendly with Scotland.
"Roman Bednar's groin strain has been confirmed so he will be out for at least two weeks," said Roberto Di Matteo.
"As soon as he told us about it we took him off because we didn't want to make it worse.
"It's a shame.
"It's always great when you are called up by your national team.
"It's one of the most satisfying things that can happen to you as a player.
"But I'm sure he will have other chances with the way he has been playing over the last couple of months.
"He's put his head down and kept working hard.
"If you keep doing that, sooner or later you get results."
