ROBERTO Di Matteo is hoping the imminent return of players from injury and suspension will ease the burden on his battle-fatigued troops.
The Baggies boss felt several of his men were running on empty during the second half of today's 2-1 defeat at Bristol City.
Albion now entertain Reading in an FA Cup fifth-round replay on Wednesday (ko 7.45pm) before hosting Derby in the league three days later (ko 3pm).
And he is looking forward to the likes of Marek Cech (hamstring) and Ishmael Miller (ankle) edging closer to fitness to add to his options, as well as Jerome Thomas being available for selection again after he completes a five-match ban against the Royals.
"We've been relying mostly on the same players," said Di Matteo.
"With the amount of games we're playing, it is just human that we tired in the second half.
"The midfield has been working hard, we've had so many games, and they've given everything.
"We've got a number of players out and hopefully they will come back to give us some options, a lift, and fresh legs towards the end of the season.
"We've been looking at loan players but it's not easy to find the right players to strengthen our squad.
"I'm looking forward to getting some players back so I have some options.
"We've lost many players in the last two to three weeks.
"The players have been working hard and doing their best.
"But you could see we were lacking a bit of everything today.
"It was mental and physical fatigue - they go together.
"But there are still a number of games to be played so hopefully we can raise ourselves, get a few players back, and get back to winning ways."
