First league meetings

Albion first faced Plymouth Argyle at The Hawthorns in a 2-1 defeat on September 27, 1930, in Old Division Two. They travelled to Home Park on January 31 of the same season, only to suffer a 5-1 beating. The Pilgrims were one of only two sides to do the double over the Baggies that campaign, in which the club won promotion to the top-flight and the FA Cup.

Big wins and defeats

Albion's biggest victory over The Pilgrims was a 5-1 drubbing in Devon in the FA Cup third round on January 5, 1963. Albion's 16 goal top-scorer for the season, Derek Kevan, scored a double in this game. It was the last of Kevan's ten years as he sealed a £50,000 move to Chelsea in March. The Baggies have suffered three large defeats by Plymouth - the most recent being a 5-2 loss on April 12, 1993. There was a repeat of that scoreline in Old Division Two on April 19, 1947. However, the biggest to date was also the first time Albion travelled to Home Park when they were beaten 5-1 on January 31, 1931.

Interesting fact

Roman Bednar scored his first-ever Baggies goals against Plymouth when he fired a double on his full Albion debut in a 2-1 win on the last outing at Home Park
