Newcastle v Albion - team news

ROBERT Koren is handed his first league start in 11 games as Roberto Di Matteo makes four changes to the side that lost 3-1 to Nottingham Forest ten days ago.

Strike duo Luke Moore and Simon Cox both drop to the bench as Roman Bednar comes in as the Baggies' lone hitman.

Youssouf Mulumbu makes his first Coca-Cola Championship start in five games as Di Matteo opts to bolster his midfield.

Both full-backs from the previous match - Gianni Zuiverloon and Joe Mattock - are relegated to the dugout, with Gonzalo Jara dropping to right-back and Marek Cech promoted from substitute to left-back.

Chris Hughton makes five changes to the Toon side that beat Plymouth 3-0 in their FA Cup third-round replay five days ago.

Steve Harper, Shola Ameobi, Danny Guthrie, Danny Simpson and Alan Smith all come in, with Tim Krul, Ryan Taylor, Fabrice Pancrate, Nicky Butt and Andy Carroll dropping to the bench.

NEWCASTLE (4-4-2): Harper; Simpson, S Taylor, Coloccini, Enrique; Guthrie, Smith, Nolan, Gutierrez; Lovenkrands, Ameobi. Subs: Krul (gk), R Taylor, Pancrate, Butt, Carroll, Kadar, Ranger.

ALBION (4-5-1): Carson; Jara, Tamas, Olsson, Cech; Dorrans, Koren, Mulumbu, Brunt, Thomas; Bednar. Subs: Kiely (gk), Miller, Moore, Cox, Teixeira, Zuiverloon, Mattock.

REFEREE: P Taylor (Hertfordshire).
