GABRIEL Tamas is hoping his loan move to Albion will breathe new life into his international career as he gears up for Monday's live TV clash at Newcastle (ko 7.45pm).
The 26-year-old centre-half already has 44 caps and three goals to his name for Romania but has not featured for his country since their 2-1 World Cup qualifying defeat by Austria in April, which resulted in coach Victor Piturca losing his job.
And Tamas has yet to figure in the first three matches under the reign of new boss Razvan Lucescu.
"Since they changed the coach I haven't been called-up," he said.
"I hope if I play good at Albion and do my best on the field it will be possible to get back into the Romania squad."
The 6ft2in defender is now looking to bounce back from the Baggies' 3-1 defeat by promotion rivals Nottingham Forest on his debut eight days ago by becoming only the third team this season to keep a clean-sheet on the league leader's home turf.
"We will go there to get the points," he added.
"No matter who you play you want to win.
"If I'm playing I don't want to concede and want to get my first clean-sheet."
*Abdoulaye Meite was an unused substitute for ten-man Ivory Coast as they beat Ghana 3-1 in Group B of the African Nations Cup to become the first side to reach the quarter-finals.
