Zuiverloon in fitness race

Posted on: Thu 14 Jan 2010

ROBERTO Di Matteo has revealed Gianni Zuiverloon is an injury doubt for Monday's top-of-the-table trip to Newcastle (ko 7.45pm).

But the Baggies boss is hopeful Chris Brunt will be available for the St James' Park encounter after he became the latest Albion player to fall foul of illness and miss training.

Zuiverloon is struggling with an ankle problem he sustained in a challenge by Paul McKenna, for which he was booked, during the second-half of Friday's 3-1 defeat by Nottingham Forest.

"Chris has reported ill and Gianni has a swollen ankle," said Di Matteo.

"We'll have to see how they are.

"Brunty should be back training in a few days and, as the game is on Monday, that helps as well."
