Cox: I'm still learning
SIMON Cox insists he must focus on getting to grips with the Coca-Cola Championship before even thinking about his international aspirations.
The Baggies striker has professed a desire to play for Ireland, who he qualifies for through his Galway-born grandmother, Mary Langan.
But, coming on the back of seven goals in as many games, he feels his last two barren performances against Peterborough and Scunthorpe have been below par and admits he still has plenty to learn in his first full season at this level.
"In the last two games I haven't been too happy with the way I have played but I have played the games and it's been more experience for me," said Cox.
"I have never played in the Championship so I am learning how it is and trying to get that consistency level.
"Maybe I did set the bar a little bit high but it's always good to try to aim for that level in consistency and goals.
"If I can keep playing I am sure goals will keep coming.
"I want to play as many games as I can and score a lot more goals.
"If we can get promoted as a team and I can be involved in that I will be more than happy.
"Then if we do get promoted, and I can be involved in as many games as I can in the Premier League, that would be great."
The Reading-born hitman has been in touch with the FAI's scouting network but has yet to hear from any of Giovanni Trapattoni's coaching staff on his prospects of donning an emerald green shirt.
"I got a call from a journalist and then I got a call from one of their scouts and he was going to pass my number on to Liam Brady," Cox added.
"But he hasn't phoned me yet.
"I'm sure if the performances and goals keep coming then the call will come.
"Ireland would be a massive bonus and I am not ruling anything out.
"If they came knocking I would take it.
"At the moment I am more focused on being a regular first team player here and scoring and performing well, and if other things come later on that would be great.
"The next internationals aren't until March so at the moment it's about January and February.
"If March comes and I get a call, I will look at it then."
