First league meetings
Albion first played Queen's Park Rangers on November 6, 1948, in Old Division Two when they won 2-0 at Loftus Road. Dave Walsh and Frank Hodgetts scored. When The Hoops travelled to the Hawthorns later that season on April 2 the game finished in a 1-1 draw, with Billy Elliott scoring the only goal for the hosts. The Baggies got promoted back to Old Division One by finishing second, just one point behind Fulham. Albion would have won the league if it was not for a 1-0 defeat on the final day of the season at Grimsby Town.
Big wins and defeats
Albion's biggest win over QPR came the last time the two sides met at The Hawthorns when they chalked up a 5-1 victory on September 30, 2007. Kevin Phillips scored a brace and Ishmael Miller, Robert Koren and then-captain Jonathan Greening all got one each. The five goals contributed to the 88 league goals scored as Albion were crowned Coca-Cola Championship champions.
The Baggies also beat The Hoops 4-0 on Boxing Day in 1968. Ronnie Rees, Dennis Martin and Ian Collard all notched. Collard scored two of his three goals for the season in this game. Rees left The Hawthorns less than a month after this victory to join Nottingham Forest.
The biggest loss suffered by the Baggies at the hands of QPR was 3-1 at Loftus Road on August 25, 1984, in Old Division One. Steve MacKenzie scored Albion's goal. This was QPR's second season back in Division One after being relegated in 1977.
Interesting fact
Last season's Albion loan-signing from Arsenal, Jay Simpson, is now at QPR. So far this season he has scored eight goals in 15 starts for The Hoops.
