First league meetings

Albion first met Derby on September 15, 1888 in Old Division One when strikes from Billy Basset and Tom Pearson. Those two players were on the mark again when the two teams met again in the reverse fixture on October 6. Pearson made it a double on this occasion to add to Walter Perry, Basset and Billy Hendry goals in a 5-0 win. Perry and his brother Charlie played together for the first time at a competitive level in the first home game of this season as the Baggies beat Burnley 4-3. Walter scored one of the goals.

Big wins and defeats

Albion's biggest win over the Rams the 5-0 thrashing mentioned above. The Baggies' biggest defeats at the hands of County were a 1896 Christmas Day 8-1 drubbing in Old Division One, with Albert Flewitt notching, and a 9-3 beating on December 12, 1934, when William Richardson, Teddy Sandford and Tommy Glidden netted consolation goals.

Interesting fact

Albion fought out the first-ever Coca-Cola Championship play-off final with Derby at the new Wembley in May 2007, when Stephen Pearson's second-half goal secured a 1-0 win for the Rams.
