Baggies treble sinks City
LATEEF Elford-Alliyu's deadly double sandwiched a Romaine Sawyers strike as Albion Under-18s beat Manchester City 3-1 on Saturday.
The Baggies took a deserved 2-0 lead in at half-time but were pegged back after the break in the FA Premier Academy League (Group C) clash.
Ryan Allsop then pulled off two outstanding saves and another Elford-Alliyu effort wrapped up all three points for the visitors.
Albion Academy coach James Shan said: "Cameron Gayle broke into the box for the first goal and flashed it across the box for Lateef to score.
"Kayleden Brown did some good work down the left for the second goal and cut the ball back for Lateef, who teed up Romaine to score from 12 yards.
"We defended well in the first half. We stayed quite deep because they were quite direct.
"Paul Downing had an outstanding game, his first contact was brilliant.
"We picked up the majority of second balls and always looked a threat going forward.
"It needed a good 20-yard strike to beat Ryan Allsop and he made two excellent saves to keep us ahead.
"Apart from that they didn't really pose much of a threat.
"Sam Mantom whipped in a terrific ball for Lateef to head home the third and we had other opportunities to score."
Albion have been drawn away at Swansea in the FA Youth Cup third round.
The tie must be played on or before Saturday, December 12. Full details will follow at www.wba.co.uk.
