Baggies fire magnificent seven

Posted on: Tue 03 Nov 2009

ALBION Under-18s smashed a magnificent seven as they thrashed Crewe 7-2 in their FA Premier Academy League clash on Saturday.

Lateef Elford-Alliyu bagged a brace, including a penalty, to add to an own goal and Kayleden Brown, Sam Mantom, Saido Berahino and Ethan Mannion strikes.

The Baggies found themselves 2-0 up at half-time and let Alexandra back into the game by conceding just after the break, before powering to their second successive victory.

Albion coach Keith Downing said: "It was an excellent performance and, as the score suggests, we were very good going forward.

"Crewe caught us on a very good day.

"We started the game exceptionally well and created numerous chances in the first ten minutes.

"We kept our patience and stuck to the game-plan.

"We got two first-half goals and I asked them at half-time to improve on certain areas and be ruthless - that's exactly what they were.

"I was a bit disappointed with the two goals we conceded if I'm being really picky.

"But overall it was a very good performance from a lot of aspects - in and out of possession.

"There were a lot of good performances.

"Out of the 11 guys who started virtually everyone played to their potential.

"It was a good day, one of those you get every now and again, and it was very pleasing on the back of the win against Everton last week.

"It's a pity we've got a break next weekend because it would be nice to keep the run going.

"The boys have done really well over the last few weeks."

Baggies Under-18s visit Bolton on Saturday, October 31 (ko 11am).

ALBION: Allsop, Gayle, Samuels, Mantom, Downing, O'Neil, Berahino, Grier, Elford-Alliyu, Thorne, Brown.
