Albion beat the Blues
ALBION Under-18s came from behind to beat Everton 3-1 in Saturday's FA Premier Academy League (Group C) clash.
The Toffees opened the scoring in the 15th minute but Lateef Elford-Alliyu levelled the scores just before half-time.
And second-half Akil Grier and Saido Berahino strikes saw the Baggies bounce back in style from successive defeats by Wolves and Liverpool to secure their first victory in six games.
"It's a difficult place to go," said Albion coach Keith Downing.
"Everton have got some good players and on the back of the recent run we've had, it was a great result and a good performance.
"Everton started quicker and scored from a corner.
"We then visibly grew into the game.
"The midfield of Sam Mantom, Grier and Berahino took a grip of the game and we got a well-deserved equaliser with a good finish from Lateef, who was through one-on-one with the keeper.
"We didn't want half-time to come because we had the ascendancy and momentum.
"Nonetheless we started the second-half really well and Akil finished from 18 yards just after the break.
"We defended very well, kept a good shape, showed good organisation and discipline.
"Berahino then also scored from the edge of the box to wrap up the game.
"Overall I was pleased with attitude, concentration and discipline of the players to the roles they were given.
"It was a good response to the last couple of results."
