Boss on Greening future and Jara deal

Posted on: Thu 20 Aug 2009

ROBERTO Di Matteo expects Jonathan Greening's future to become clearer in the next 48 hours - and revealed he is closing in on his sixth permanent summer signing.

Albion are in advanced talks with Fulham over the sale of the Hawthorns skipper, who sat out the 3-2 win at Peterborough.

"Basically, the two clubs are negotiating so I didn't feel it was right for Jonno to be involved," said Di Matteo.

"His team-mates are fighting for a cause.

"He's been a great professional for us and I spoke to him before the game.

"There has been a lot going on for him in the last five or six weeks but, once again, I have to emphasise he's been very good for us.

"He's been a true professional and it was my decision to pull him out tonight."

Meanwhile, the Baggies have agreed terms with Colo Colo for Gonzalo Jara.

The versatile defender now has to agree personal terms, pass a medical and secure a work permit before a deal can be completed.

"He's a Chilean international and is a defensive player who can also play in midfield," Di Matteo added.

"He will be able to cover various positions, which is good for me."
