ALBION are saddened to hear former player John Hartson has been diagnosed with cancer.

The 34-year-old now faces a tough battle against the disease as he begins treatment.

Hartson joined Albion in July 2006 and played 24 times for the club, including eight appearances as a substitute, scoring six times.

CLUB STATEMENT:

"Everyone at the club is sad to hear about John's illness.

"He was a popular figure during his time at The Hawthorns and is fondly remembered by everyone.

"John was always a fighter on the pitch throughout his career and the club would like to wish him all the best in his battle against cancer."
