Albion to face Croatian side NK Varteks
ALBION will round off their pre-season trip to Slovenia by crossing the border into Croatia to take on NK Varteks on Saturday, July 18 (ko 7pm BST).
The Baggies will travel around an hour from their training base in Slovenia's North-Eastern city of Ptuj to face the Croatian First Division side at their 9,000-capacity stadium in Varazdin.
Albion's other tour match comes three days earlier against Slovenian First Division outfit NK Nafta, at the Mestni Stadium in Lendava (ko 4.30pm BST).
Varteks beat runners-up Hajduk Split 1-0 away towards the end of last season and ultimately finished tenth in the league.
Former Croatia Under-21 midfielder Goran Mujanovic finished as joint-eighth top goalscorer in the division with 11 goals.
Up until the 2006/07 season the club, who are nicknamed the Tailors, were regulars in the UEFA Cup and memorably knocked Villa out 3-3 on away goals to reach the second round of the competition during the 2001/02 campaign.
The friendly comes just a week before Drazen Besek's men kick-off their new season away at Inter Zapresic.
