CHRIS Wood was an unused substitute as New Zealand suffered a 5-0 defeat by European Champions Spain in their opening Confederations Cup Group A clash in Rustenburg.
Liverpool's Fernando Torres smashed an 11-minute hat-trick before Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas and Valencia's David Villa also notched.
The Kiwis play hosts South Africa next on Wednesday at the same venue (ko 8.30pm BST).
