JEREMY Peace has stated categorically that not even a 'ridiculous' offer will force Albion to sell any player - 'unless it suits the club'.
Several senior players have been the subject of media speculation since the club's relegation on Sunday.
But, while admitting Tony Mowbray will have to fund new signings by releasing or selling current members of his squad, the Hawthorns chairman is adamant only fringe players will be leaving - and then only on Albion's terms.
"We won't sell unless it's a player who is peripheral to the squad and we get an opportunity to move him on," said Peace.
"Additionally, if there are certain squad players where we feel we could possibly improve the team by letting them go then we'll also look at that.
"It will be about cutting back numbers whilst improving quality.
"We will certainly not sell players we feel can do a job for us next season and beyond that if we're in the Premier League.
"What we don't want to do is get rid of quality players now and, if we were lucky enough to get re-promoted, bring that type of player back at maybe twice the price - that's madness.
"There is a very short period of time for a promoted team to strengthen for a tough Premier League season, and with Premier League clubs not able to loan players between transfer windows there is a long gap until the January window.
"If we've at least got a very decent core squad and add a few more quality players this summer, who will hopefully be able to perform in the Premier League, it will make it a bit easier for us in future transfer windows."
