MARC-ANTOINE Fortune was delighted to end his luckless ten-game barren spell in style with a deadly double in today's crucial 3-1 win over Wigan.
The last time the on-loan Nancy striker netted, he bagged a brace that ultimately counted for nothing in a 3-2 defeat by Newcastle in February.
But his unstinting work as Albion's lone frontman over the last few weeks finally paid dividends as he took his tally since joining the club in January to five goals, with strikes in the eighth and 73rd minutes.
"We had to win today to have a hope of keeping the club in the Barclays Premier League," said Fortune.
"It was a very important game and we did well so I'm happy.
"It's nice to score and win but I don't mind if I only make assists as long as we win.
"In the last few weeks, it seems as though the keeper has saved my shots, a player has blocked them or I've hit the post.
"It was disappointing to score two goals against Newcastle and lose.
"But today I scored twice and we won.
"That makes me a happy man."
The French-Guyana powerhouse also reserved high praise for Albion's supporters, who once against turned The Hawthorns into an uplifting cauldron of noise for Tony Mowbray's men.
"The fans are fantastic," he added.
"They support us every game and I have to thank them a lot for that and tell them we will do our best to stay in the Premier League.
"They give us the power to do our best."
