Dorrans' deal delight
GRAHAM Dorrans admits putting pen to paper on a new three-year Albion deal today has capped a 'surreal' year for him.
The contract, which also includes a further year's option in the club's favour, is reward for the rapid progress he has made since moving to The Hawthorns from Livingston in July.
And the Scottish midfielder insists he did not have to think twice about committing his future to the Baggies.
"It's great my future lies here for the next few years," said Dorrans.
"When I joined the club I knew I wouldn't get in the first team straight away.
"But I managed to play a few reserve-team games, got myself into the first team and I've done okay since then, which is great.
"Working with some great players and coaches here means obviously you're going to improve as a player.
"The gaffer has given me my chance and I'm grateful for that.
"Twelve months ago I was playing in League One in Scotland so it's surreal to be playing in the Premier League now.
"This new contract is a big boost for me and hopefully I can kick on from here.
"I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here and I didn't think twice about signing it.
"The club is fantastic and it's been perfect for me.
"I've had several chats with the manager and it's great when you work with people of that calibre."
The 22-year-old ace's breakthrough has come in central midfield - a role he is unfamiliar with but is revelling in thanks to the help of the Baggies coaches and skipper Jonathan Greening.
"Last season I played on the wing but I'll play anywhere as long as I'm playing - that's all that matters," he added.
"It's been great playing in the centre.
"Jonno's been giving me pointers because I've not played there a lot.
"It's great when you've got people like that advising you and playing alongside you."
Despite not being able to play due to a foot injury, Dorrans was flattered to earn his first-ever call-up to the Scotland B squad last week for their friendly with Northern Ireland.
But he is fully focused on trying to establish himself in Albion's first XI before he worries about his international aspirations.
"It was great to be called up by Scotland B," he said.
"Hopefully I can establish myself in the Albion team first and anything after that is a bonus.
"I'm taking one game at a time and I want to kick on next year and become a regular in the team."
