TONY Mowbray reckons super-sub Juan Carlos Menseguez got his just desserts in today's terrific 3-0 win over Sunderland.
The Baggies boss revealed the January loan signing from San Lorenzo asked to travel to Brentford's Griffin Park ground on Monday to play in the reserves' clash against Chelsea, when his two goals earned a draw.
And, after replacing the injured Graham Dorrans as a 64th-minute substitute against the Black Cats, he crowned an impressive display with a superb strike two minutes from time - his first-ever Barclays Premier League goal.
Mowbray said: "Menseguez scored a great goal.
"He's a player who has taken time to adapt to the English game.
"He came from the top division in Argentina where he scored plenty of goals.
"He asked me if he could go and play against Chelsea reserves this week, which is great credit to him.
"He scored two goals and deserved a chance in the team today.
"When it came he went on and scored a great goal.
"He looked good.
"Juan's got great feet and is very hard to get off the ball.
"He can give teams problems and is a very talented individual.
"It was always a question of whether he'd adapt in time to the physicality and speed of the Premier League - but he has the quality."
Man-of-the-match Dorrans left the Hawthorns with his right foot in an orthopaedic boot as a precaution after being caught by a stud. The injury isn't thought to be serious.
Mowbray also explained why he was forced to replace Abdoulaye Meite with Shelton Martis at half-time.
"Meite's hamstring is giving him some problems," the Albion chief added.
"The other substitution at half-time [Youssouf Mulumbu coming on for Jay Simpson] was tactical and then Dorrans also came off with an injury."
